May 16th Regular Council Meeting

This recording is 42 minutes long. Agenda adoption at start, then Council received two delegations related to development proposals – the first related to a rezoning and development permit for a mini-storage facility proposed for 640 Anderton Road and the second for a development variance permit requested by the School District at 1290 Guthrie related to a proposed new parking lot. Next Council dealt with the Minutes of the prior meetings (at 16 min). Council gave third reading and adoption to a rezoning bylaw for 2182 Comox Avenue (at 18 min). Council then reported on an in-camera motion to enter into a memorandum of understanding with the K’omoks First Nation regarding the Northeast Woods. Next Council received the May 1st minutes of a Regional District meeting then began consideration of new business (at 19 min) – authorization for a grant application for a multi-use path and bank protection along a portion of Lazo Road, Rezoning and DP for 640 Anderton Road, and approval of the DVP for 1290 Guthrie Road. May 9th Special Council Meeting

May 2nd Regular Council Meeting

This recording is 47 minutes long. Agenda adoption at start, then Council received the Minutes of the prior meetings and recommendations from the April 25th Committee of the Whole. Council gave third reading to two bylaws rezoning 2310 Guthrie Road for commercial development (at 4 min). Council then reported on the in-camera approval of the Provincial / Federal RCMP policing contract (at 12 minutes). Council gave first, second and third readings to the Town’s Financial Plan and Tax Rate bylaws (at 13 minutes), then gave first and second readings to a rezoning bylaw (for the NW corner of Torrence & Noel) and approved the rezoning going to a public hearing. Next Council gave first and second readings to a rezoning bylaw that would expand the zones which permit secondary suites (at 26 minutes) and approved going to a public hearing for that bylaw. Councillor Price provided a notice of motion related to a motion on the Canada EU Trade agreement that will come to the next Regular Council Meeting May 16th. April 25th Committee of the Whole

Agenda adoption at start, then the Committee received departmental reports from the Fire Department, Parks & Building Maintenance, Recreation, Public Works and Planning & Building departments. Then the Committee considered draft bylaws for the 2012 – 2016 Financial Plan and 2012 Property Tax Rates (at 13 min). Finally the Committee received the policing reports from the RCMP detachment for January through March (at 30 min). April 18th Regular Council Meeting

Agenda adoption at start, then Council received four delegations: the first related to a rezoning and heritage tax exemption request at 2182 Comox Avenue (former Roman Catholic Church), the next two on a Development Variance Permit at 62 Orchard Park Drive, and the final from the Town’s Auditors (MNP LLP) on the Consolidated 2011 Financial Statements. Next Council dealt with the Minutes of the prior meetings and recommendations from the April 11th Committee of the Whole (at 18 min). Council gave first & second readings to the rezoning bylaw for 2182 Comox Avenue (at 20 min). Council then approved the December 31, 2011 Financial Statements presented earlier in the meeting (at 21 min). April 11th Committee of the Whole

Agenda adoption at start, then Committee received two delegations (the Filberg Heritage Lodge & Park Association and then the Comox Valley Parkinsons’s Support Group). Then it moved onto two staff reports dealing with the second draft of the 2012-2016 Financial Plan (starting at 20 minutes). Finally, Council received a letter from Emterra Environmental on its plan to support the St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation by donating $1 for every tonne of recyclables that are collected in Comox & Courtenay.
