Mariner Apartments – Water Damage
On Thursday, January 10, 2019 in the early morning hours the Town of Comox experienced a major water line break near the intersection of Comox Avenue and Aitken Street. Town staff were called at 5:42 am and the water was shut off at approximately 6:10 am.
While repair of this main was completed and service returned at approximately 10:00 am, water did flow into the parking area of 2181 Comox Avenue (Mariner Apartments) -- flooding a number of units on the lower floor. The extent of the damage led to affected tenants receiving notice from the property owner(s) that they were ending all tenancies on the first floor.
Subsequent to this event, property owner(s) of Marina Apartments scheduled a meeting which was held on Monday, January 14, 2019. Unfortunately, due to weather conditions (fog), the property owner(s) were unable to attend the meeting. However, the Building Manager was in attendance and joined by Town representatives, Mayor Russ Arnott, Ms. S. Ashfield, Municipal Engineer/Acting CAO and Mr. H. Siemens, CVRD Emergency Program Coordinator.
Sixty people attended the meeting, asked questions and were provided with a list of contact names and numbers of the various support services available to them in the valley.
Mayor Arnott and Town staff continue to communicate with the property owners of Mariner Apartments and we have been advised by the property owners that they are looking after those tenants displaced as a result of the water damage.
