Snow and Ice Control

Public Notice

TO ALL RESIDENTS AND BUSINESS OWNERS

According to the Town of Comox Municipal Snow Plowing, Sanding and De-Icing policy, streets will be plowed after 10 cm of snow has accumulated on roads, or when lesser accumulations result in dangerous conditions. Plowing is prioritized as follows:

Roads:

  1. Arterial Roads
  2. Major Collector Roads
  3. Minor Collector Roads
  4. Steep Hills
  5. Bus Routes
  6. Local Roads
  7. Cul-de-sacs

Facilities:

  1. Fire Hall, Town Hall, Community Centre and other municipal facilities.
  2. School areas

Sidewalks (as resources are available):

  1. Arterial Roads
  2. Major Collector Roads

Residents are required to clear snow from sidewalks adjacent to their property.

Road plowing will result in a windrow of snow across driveway and business accesses. The Town suggests that you wait until plows have passed before clearing your driveway. Please do not deposit snow from a driveway, sidewalk or windrow onto the roadway.

Plowing the streets of Comox is a demanding job and our crews work around the clock. To assist our crews in doing this work safely we ask the public to:

  1. Limit travel unless it is necessary during severe weather;
  2. Do not attempt to pass a snow plow;
  3. Remove all parked vehicles from the street until plowing has been completed.

Thank you for your cooperation.
