By-election Planning Underway for the Town of Comox

With the recent resignation of Councillor Pat McKenna, a one-term Councillor with Comox, Town staff are now undertaking preliminary by-election planning.

By-elections in B.C. are held between general local elections to fill a vacancy on a municipal council or regional district board. With Councillor McKenna’s notice of resignation given effective August 31, 2021, the by-election is anticipated to be held in early fall.

Councillor McKenna has represented the Town on several committees including Comox Valley Community Justice Centre, Comox Nautical Days steering committee, and the Vancouver Island Regional Library board, and has also been an advocate for local arts & culture initiatives, as well as affordable housing.

“Councillor McKenna has contributed a great deal on Council, and has been a passionate supporter of the arts and of affordable housing issues,” said Mayor of Comox Russ Arnott, referring to recent affordable housing initiatives from the Town including the 695 Aspen project that features affordable housing units and a daycare, as well as the Balmoral Avenue affordable seniors housing project that also recently secured Provincial funding, “On behalf of the rest of Comox Council and Town staff, I wish he and his family all the best as they relocate to the East Coast of Canada and start this new chapter.”

Further details and information will be posted to comox.ca/municipal-elections as they are finalized.
