Improving Accessibility

In 2021, the province passed the Accessible B.C. Act to improve accessibility across the province. In 2022, the Accessible British Columbia Regulation was enacted, which mandates that local governments, along with other public sector entities, must:

  1. set up an accessibility committee,
  2. create an accessibility plan, and
  3. establish a process for receiving public input on accessibility.

Comox Valley Accessibility Committee

Town Council adopted the Comox Valley Local Government Accessibility Framework on November 1, 2023.  The Comox Valley Local Government Accessibility Framework (the Framework) was developed in partnership with local government staff, the Comox Valley Social Planning Society, and the Comox Valley Accessibility Committee. It sets out shared principles, directs local government strategies, and appoints the Comox Valley Accessibility Committee as the official regional body.

Town of Comox Accessibility Plan

The Town is currently developing an Accessibility Plan to align with the requirements of the Accessible BC Act. The new Plan will be a guiding document that outlines the Town's accessibility commitment.
