A new lighting initiative is making the alleyway connecting downtown Comox to Marina Park brighter and safer for everyone to enjoy. Led by the Comox Business in Action (BIA) with support from the Town of Comox, the lighting project, located along Harbour Greenway from Comox Avenue to the park, aims to increase safety and to create a welcoming atmosphere during the darker months.
The Comox BIA spearheaded the project by providing seed funding and coordination with various interest groups. The nearby building owners and the support of the dÉsterre Seniors' Centre along the pathway were instrumental in bringing the vision to reality.
“This lighting project is an exciting example of the strong collaborative partnership between the Town and our Downtown Business Association,” said Comox Mayor, Nicole Minions. “With the BIA’s leadership, this initiative has created a vibrant, accessible, and beautiful ambiance for the area, especially during our short fall and winter days.”
“It’s vitally important to enhance downtown Comox, in big and small ways, to motivate residents to continue to enjoy the area and support the amazing small businesses that bring downtown to life, “ said Pete Chambers, President of the BIA. “The BIA is thrilled with the result and wishes to recognize the tremendous efforts of the Town’s Parks Department and senior staff, BIA Board Director Sharon Neville, property owner’s Dave White and Anita Wotsch, and the d’Esterre Seniors' Centre, for collectively bringing the vision to reality.”
As the Town of Comox continues to advance the Downtown Enhancement Action Plan, together with the support of the BIA, this project marks efforts in continuing to improve connectivity and the overall experience for our residents and visitors to our community.
