How to Apply

• Step One: Ensure eligibility

  The Town asks that potential applicants ensure they are eligible to participate in the Regional Pilot Program. The following is the criteria for the program:  

  • Must be a new business from the three sectors identified above
  • Minimum of $100,000 in eligible business investments
  • Minimum personal net worth of $300,000
  • Minimum of 51% ownership
  • Minimum of 1 new job created
  • Exploratory community visit*

  *Please note for those interested in pursuing the Regional Pilot Program that exploratory visits to the Town of Comox are by invitation only. All costs associated with exploratory visits are to be covered by the applicant.

• Step Two: Educated yourself on the Town of Comox

  Comox is an oceanside community situated on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. With a population of 15,000+, the Town boasts a vibrant downtown core, stunning marina, extensive greenways, parks, and beaches. Located in the centre of a rich agricultural and seafood producing region, the moderate climate, unsurpassed recreational & culinary opportunities, and comprehensive community services are just a few of the reasons that Comox is gaining its reputation for its quality of life and as a popular tourism destination. Comox is one of three municipalities in the regional district of the Comox Valley, and is home to CFB 19 Wing Comox and the Comox Valley Airport (YQQ) which is services by major airlines including WestJet and Air Canada.

  Surrounded by the ocean and beaches, Comox boasts a wide range of marine-based experiences including whale & marine wildlife watching, kayaking and stand-up paddle boarding, fishing charters, sailing excursions, and kitesurfing. A growing list of operators provide experience-based tours and rentals for both water and land-based activities throughout the area including biking and culinary tours.

  Downtown Comox is a vibrant area located within walking distance of the harbour and marina, with boutique shopping, pubs and breweries, restaurants, a grocery store, professional services and much more. There are numerous parks, sports fields, and greenways in Comox as well.

  There are five public schools in Comox; four Elementary and one High School which are in the School District 71 area. Also located in the Comox Valley is North Island College, which provides equivalency, diploma and university transfer courses together with a wealth of leisure programs.

  In winter residents and visitors enjoy cross country and downhill skiing roughly a 30-minute drive from Comox, on Mount Washington. While snow covers the surrounding mountains in the winter, year-round, thanks to the temperate climate, the area boasts extensive hiking and biking (road and mountain biking).

• Step Three: Submit your application

  Due to the volume of applications, the Town is asking that applicants send the Executive Summary portion of their Business Plan for their proposed business. Your plan will be reviewed by the Town and those that are successful will be asked to submit their full Business Plan for as a next step. By submitting an application and Executive Summary, the applicant is providing consent to share their information with the the Town for detailed review.

  If applicants have ensured eligibility, educated themselves on Comox and prepared their Executive Summary as part of their overall Business Plan, they can now submit an application. Since the Regional Pilot Program was announced, the Town has experienced significant interest from entrepreneurs across the globe. The Town have staff that reviews applications as time permits. Unfortunately, not everyone will be invited to submit a Business Plan or invited for a site visit.

  All costs associated with the site visit are at the expense of the applicant. It should be noted that a site visit does not guarantee approval into the Regional Pilot Program nor that a referral to the Program the town will be provided.
