The Town of Comox has received financial support from the B.C. Fairs, Festivals, and Events Recovery Fund (FFERF) for the BC Seafood Festival and Nautical Days in 2022. The FFERF provides a one-time grant for up to 20% of a total event budget, designed to be used for a range of operational expenses.
Prior to the pandemic, the BC Seafood Festival has been a staple within the Town of Comox since its inception in 2005, being held annually in June at the Filberg Heritage Lodge and Park. Nautical Days is another cherished community event that celebrates the spirit of the community with various nautical-themed activities over the B.C. Day long weekend.
“Comox has a vibrant commercial fishery and harbour that forms an important part of the Town’s economy,” said Mayor Russ Arnott. “We are incredibly thankful and excited to receive this funding, as it will enable the return of two landmark events over the summer. These events not only highlight and celebrate our region’s seafood industry, but also showcase our coastal community and the positive impact it brings to the region. We gratefully acknowledge the financial support of the Province of British Columbia and the support from the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture and Sport for providing this opportunity.”
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged our ability to host events and large gatherings. In lieu of the recent spike in cases across Vancouver Island, the Town of Comox will be monitoring Public Health Orders. The Town will evaluate these events and relevant programming and will ensure any hosted event follows all guidelines from Island Health and other associated authorities. The Town of Comox encourages everyone to get vaccinated to help ensure events like this can take place safely.
